The edible white liquid dream

I had an interesting dream. Have been having a lot recently but I seem to forget most as soon as I wake up. This one I remember large parts because I assume some reasoning faculties in the brain were functional during the dream state. More in a bit but first…

The Dream

I seemed to be listening to a pitch from people who figured out how to create an “edible white liquid” using bacterial micro reactors. Although I don’t really remember seeing anyone. I was focussed on the machine, I also don’t know if someone was actually talking or the whole thing was just my thoughts…

The setup looked to be the size of a medium 4 seater car area wise but much taller, had a lot of standing tubes with a few inches of gaps between them. Inside them was cloudly clumps of bacteria whose colour I cannot remember but they were growing on some sort of substrate and occassionally a couple of punps would circulate water, air and what looked like some sort of nutritional feed.

There were three distinct clusters of tubes each made one component of the edible white liquid. Somewhere here when in the dream I was observing them was when my reasoning faculties sort of woke up. I remember trying to decipher what these individual liquids were and how they would combine.

One was probably the fats, another a kind of binder/suspender and the last was the nutritional supplement. From my one time in college trying to make a vegan meal replacement, I know its incredibly tricky to get the contents to suspend in the liquid and not all seperate to the bottom.

Funny how I thought about all that and not once question if I was in a dream lol.

Anyway the final component was the extractor / mixer. This crucial step is the most hazy part of my dream probably because my brain doesn’t really know the science of extracting stuff from bacteria and mixing them. But what I could make out was the cylinders were all at different stages so only about a third of them at any time were ready.

The cylinders were emptied about 95%. “Something” extracted the 3 base liquids and added them all to one container, there was a surprising quantity. A guesstimate would be about 50L (5% left to regrow the bacteria I assume)

A pasteurisation + standardization process occured within that container that broke down larger chunks of fat to small pieces (at the molecular level) and the output… an edible white liquid!

After that its a bit hazy again but I remember that they were pitching this as a machine they would provide only to people whose livelihood depended on cow milk as a way to ensure that on product launch they are not affected by falling milk sales. Some promises that the machines would never be commercialized and that anyone who borrows/buys this machine would not be forced to stop their animal livelihoods but were expected to use the additional income to help improve the animal welfare.

The initial market price was also set as a floating number of about 1.8x the local rate of cattle milk.
