Looking at the globe from the north - A thought about perspectives

I was watching the new video about why the USA and China are fighting over Greenland (you should watch this and his other videos, very well made) when he showed the map of the world from above
At about 8:56 it struck me how close the USA and Russia truly are. I was so used to the flat mercator projection that make it seem like Russia and the USA are not very close.
It just got me thinking, how many things we observe from a fixed perspective and make up incorrect assumptions of. And thats just visual perspective… If you get into mental perspective then there is probably a whole lot more to re-think.
